Lit Fiber
Lit fiber is fiber-optic infrastructure that has active networking equipment installed and is ready to transmit data. The fiber is connected to the electronics needed to generate, receive, and manage optical signals rather than being provided as unused fiber strands.
Businesses typically purchase lit fiber as a managed connectivity service, with the carrier operating the underlying optical equipment and providing a defined amount of bandwidth. This differs from dark fiber, where the customer receives unused fiber and supplies the equipment needed to activate it.
Lit fiber is also called active fiber, managed fiber, or lit fiber service.
