Mbps, or megabits per second, measures the rate at which data moves across an internet or network connection. One Mbps equals 1,000 Kbps, or 1 million bits per second.
Internet providers commonly use Mbps to describe available upload and download bandwidth. The amount required depends on how many users and applications are sharing the connection and how much data those applications consume.
Mbps is also written as Mb/s or megabits per second and should not be confused with MBps, which measures megabytes per second.
