VPLS (Virtual Private LAN Service) is a type of networking technology that provides a virtual private network (VPN) service over an MPLS backbone. It allows multiple remote sites to connect to each other as if they were part of the same local area network (LAN). This enables organizations to share resources and communicate with each other as if they were all located in the same physical location, while maintaining the security and privacy of their internal networks. VPLS is typically implemented using Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology, which provides a fast and reliable way to forward data between sites. Virtual Private LAN Service is also known as Point to Point Ethernet, ELAN, VPLS Network, Metro Ethernet, or Carrier Ethernet Service.
