Wholesale bandwidth is network capacity sold in volume by one telecommunications provider to another carrier, reseller, service provider, or large network operator. The buyer uses that capacity as part of its own network or incorporates it into services offered to customers.
Wholesale bandwidth can be provided across fiber, Ethernet, wavelength, internet, or other transport networks. Agreements are generally structured around capacity, locations, routes, service levels, and volume rather than retail per-user plans.
It may also be called wholesale network capacity, carrier bandwidth, bulk bandwidth, or wholesale transport.
